This tour takes in the best roads in the country and some of the best kept secrets that Victoria and the New South Wales South Coast has to offer. We keep well away from the heavy traffic and the Highways and take you to some beautiful locations, great country pubs and a couple of special cafes. There is plenty of time for stops, which you will want so you can photograph this amazing country.
The Tour has been updated so that those who wish to return to Melbourne can do so on the final day of the Tour, heading south from Tathra along some wonderful roads around the border before hitting Lakes Entrance and the run into Melbourne.
Bring your favourite car, the roads are all in good to great condition and bitumen all the way. 98 octane is plentiful along the way and the roads will make you remember why you love your car so much.
Dinners are still being organised but will be in line with our mantra of “Great Roads – Good Bottle of Red – Soft Bed”.
Day 1.
306 KmWe head out of Melbourne and head into the Yarra Ranges. We then take in a couple of famous stretches around Healesville before heading deep into the ranges and a couple of roads you probably haven’t experienced before. The highlight is a very special road that leads us into our overnight stop in Mansfield.
Day 2.
352 KmThis is a day to remember. Leaving Mansfield we take a glorious drive into the King Valley home of some great wineries and the gourmet village of Milawa. There is time to look around the villages of Myrtleford and Bright before heading into the Alps and our home for the night in Mount Beauty.
Day 3.
372 KmUnique to this tour you have an option of 2 routes today. The enthusiast’s option is to head up through Falls Ck on an amazing and empty stretch of tortured bitumen that drops us into the Murray Valley and lunch at Jingellic. The cruiser option heads through Tallangatta before picking up the Murray River Way to meet up with the enthusiasts for lunch at Jingellic. After lunch there is plenty more great driving through some beautiful scenery on little back roads before heading onto the famous Alpine Way through Thredbo and into Jindabyne.
Day 4.
353 KmThe driving just keeps getting better. There are some very special backroads across the Monaro before we drop down the escarpment and into the Bega Valley to the coast. We then travel through some of the iconic sights that make the far south coast so special. Our Hotel in Tathra has very special rooms fronting the ocean.
Day 5.
350 KmThe morning run follows the highway north. There are plenty of great sights, fantastic cafes and bakeries although the view from our lunch stop cannot be beaten. We then travel some little-known backroads before hitting the Hume Highway an hour southwest of Sydney.
OR
Head back to Melbourne along the coast road which has some brilliant sections around the border.
The Cost
Cost of the 5 day tour is only $3,000/couple and includes very comfortable accommodation as well as a comprehensive roads book and Garmin Sat-Nav units to keep you on track. I will be there to smooth the way and to keep everything on track.
